Goccles Oral Cancer Screening

Regular oral cancer screening is one of the simplest ways to protect your long-term oral health. Using Goccles technology, we can check the soft tissues of your mouth quickly and comfortably, helping to spot changes early and giving you extra peace of mind.

What is an Oral Cancer Screening (Goccles)?

An oral cancer screening is a quick, non-invasive check of the soft tissues in and around your mouth. Using Goccles screening technology, we look for unusual changes in the oral tissues that may not be obvious under normal lighting. It’s a simple step that can be carried out as part of a routine appointment, helping to highlight anything that may need a closer look.

What potential issues can be detected during a Goccles Oral Cancer Screening?

An oral cancer screening with Goccles goes beyond a standard visual check. Using the curing light found in dental practices and Goccles’ patented optical filters, we assess the mouth’s autofluorescence—helping to highlight changes that may not be visible to the naked eye. In around 60 seconds, it supports early identification and guides any next steps if needed.

A quick, comfortable screening

Goccles is a simple, non-invasive check of the soft tissues in your mouth. You won’t need any gels, dyes, or rinses, your dentist just uses a standard dental light and special Goccles glasses to look for unusual changes that can be hard to spot with the naked eye. It’s fast, painless, and gives you extra reassurance that your whole mouth, not just your teeth, has been checked.

Quick answers to your questions

Is this a diagnosis test, or just a screening?

It’s a screening, not a diagnosis. Goccles helps highlight areas that may need a closer look, but it can’t confirm cancer on its own. If something looks unusual, we’ll explain the next step (review, monitoring, or referral).

Not necessarily. Lots of common things can look different during screening (inflammation, trauma from biting, ulcers, irritation, etc.). A “dark area” simply means it’s worth checking properly.

We check the soft tissues: lips, cheeks, gums, tongue (including sides/underneath), floor of mouth, palate, and throat area—because changes can appear anywhere, not just on the tongue.

If something hasn’t healed in 2–3 weeks, or you’ve noticed a lump, persistent red/white patch, numbness, or ongoing hoarseness, it’s sensible to book in for an assessment. Screening is helpful, but symptoms like these should always be evaluated.

Smoking and alcohol increase risk, but oral changes can affect anyone. Screening is a prevention-focused check, the goal is to spot anything unusual early, regardless of risk profile.
